A Kosher Diet at Christmas?

A Shiksa’s Kosher Christmas

Although I was raised with a traditional Christmas, this year seemed to be my time to explore some other holiday heritages. I attended a holiday party hosted by a Jewish family who follow a kosher lifestyle. A neighbor invited me for a kosher meal on Christmas Eve. Then there was my visit to the kosher winery a few weeks ago. And I’ve been revisiting my "Sex in the City" DVD’s. I just happen to be on the season where Charlotte converts to Judaism for a man. So I can’t help but think that someone is trying to tell me something.

RAW Desserts

Can’t go RAW without a refrigerator

Last weekend I got a visit from the refrigerator angel. His name is Ken and he saved my life, or at least my diet. I found his add on craigslist for a very affordable fridge with a 90 day service guarantee and free delivery! If you or someone you know needs a refrigerator or one serviced, Ken is the guy to call: 323-360-8470. He was so accommodating, kind and courteous. I want to give him more business but one refrigerator is all I need right now. I’ve never owned a major appliance before and I love the responsibility and the power I feel knowing that I now take full ownership for my food storage.

Refrigerate After Opening...or not

No Refrigeration Required

I just moved into a beautiful beachfront apartment. Each morning I have the privilege of stepping out my front door right onto the soft sand. I pinch myself each time and ask, “Have I died and gone to heaven?”

The only downfall to my literal paradise is that, for the moment, my apartment is sans-a-fridge. I have no place to store cold food, which you may think would make eating healthy an impossibility. While lack of cold storage does present some challenges, it also offers many fortunate opportunities. For example, I have eaten at my favorite restaurant, Real Food Daily, twice in the past week. They have many wonderful gluten free options for us gluten sensitive types. My favorite is El Bandito Rojo. It’s a vegan enchilada dish but I’ll bet it can entice even the most devout carnivore!
